Creativity is a resource that creates business; it’s a key component in competitiveness, and the determining factor that can make a difference to the market. However, to be creative means being an expert, skilled, but above all knowing how to take risks. The companies that have participated in the project, have shown they have this fortitude, this will to accomplish, to not stay seated and await the future inertly. They have risen to the creative challenge, they have worked together, they have joined in working techniques and in the creating of products that were for them new and unusual, they have enriched themselves in their encounters with the talents of young and motivated designers. Every edition of Rethinking the Product represents a challenge, that of improving oneself, of innovating, of putting ideas out there, building networks and contacts. In a time of difficulty in the markets such as this, rather than staying put, they threw down the gantlet. And this will make our businesses grow bigger!

Though collaborative efforts, the project’s goal is to stimulate innovation and improve company competitiveness, even throughout different regions. This spirit and purpose lie behind the decision made by Terni’s Chamber of Commerce and the city’s artistic craftsmanship sector to participate in ‘Rethinking the Product’. The project has generated a virtuous circle that spotlights originality, innovation and tradition, thereby stimulating synergies and boosting the networking abilities of various companies. These factors contribute to the re-launching of high-quality craftsmanship within a strategic sector, thanks to ‘re-thinking’ it from a perspective linking innovation and design, focusing on and skillfully revisiting each product’s materials and functionality.
ENRICO CIPICCIA
Presidente Camera di Commercio di Terni
Our productive system’s growth and development is strictly linked to the ability of small and medium-sized companies from various sectors to work together: by comparing ideas and sharing respective know-how and expertise, they can generate extraordinarily innovative products for launch on the national and international markets. This project is celebrating its fifth edition and RTP has the merit of encouraging a meeting of the minds and collaborative work between the two souls of Pisa’s productive fabric. They are represented by the ‘home’ and ‘fashion’ sector and its more technological counterpart which includes ICT, domotics and bio-technologies. The wide-ranging participation of Pisabased companies has tripled since last year which confirms the productive sector’s interest and desire to cultivate ideas generated by a network of know-how from Tuscany and Pisa. This factor encourages us to move forward along the path toward ‘Rethinking the Product’.

Presidente Camera di Commercio di Pisa
This year, for the first time ever, Rethinking the Product 2012 will include the Lucca Chamber of Commerce among its key players. The project’s value lies in two basic elements: on the one hand, there’s its ability to draw the market’s attention toward the design, functionality and materials that have always constituted Made in Italy excellence; on the other hand, there’s the chance to create a network between companies in various territories, thereby enormously increasing their creative and productive potential. For some time now, Made in Italy products have proven themselves an expression of excellent creativity, competence and production. Made in Lucca products have already distinguished themselves by their unique flair. Widely recognized on the market, these products contribute to enhancing the distinctive features of Made in Italy products, such as elegance and style combined with innovation, excellence, aesthetics, design and product quality. I am certain that products produced in Lucca as well as those made in other provinces participating in the Rethinking the Product 2012 project will contribute to the initiative’s success, confirming the importance of partnerships between our Chambers of Commerce.
CLAUDIO GUERRIERI
Presidente Camera di Commercio di Lucca
Creativity / Innovation / Change These are the ‘key’ words that have determined the success of ‘Rethinking the Product’. Created with the aim of investigating the various processes lying at the base of creativity and the generation of new ideas, this project boasts important results on the international market where it is considered an authentic workshop for ‘Made-in-Italy’ expressions and ideas. We’re dealing with a suitable new initiative that’s capable of stimulating and instilling a precious pro-active approach in its main players that’s characterized by versatility, renewal and the spirit of adaptability—all geared toward productive aims.
